How JWT signing works

The header and payload are Base64URL-encoded and signed with HMAC (HS*, shared secret), RSA (RS*, private key) or ECDSA (ES*, private key). Anyone with the key can mint valid tokens.

A signature only proves integrity and origin — it does not make the contents secret. Never put passwords or private data in a JWT payload. Unsigned "none" tokens are intentionally not offered.
